Render for Startups is Render’s credit programme for early-stage companies hosting web apps, APIs, background workers and databases on its cloud. Grants range from $500 for a directly funded startup to $100,000 for AI-native companies backed by Render’s top VC partners, and all credits last one year. We checked Render’s official startup pages on 1 November 2026.
What you get
Render sorts applicants into four tiers. Your tier depends on how much you have raised and who invested.
| Tier | Credits | Route in |
|---|---|---|
| Prototype | $500 | Apply directly, no partner needed |
| Build | Up to $5,000 | Through an enrolled accelerator or VC partner |
| Scale | $10K (under $1M raised) or $25K ($1M or more) | Funding from an enrolled top-tier VC |
| AI | $100K | At least $2.5M from an enrolled top-tier VC |
Extras by tier
- All tiers: startup onboarding resources.
- Build and Scale: access to Render’s startup events.
- AI tier: a 1:1 onboarding and migration session, a dedicated support Slack channel free for one year, eligibility for a co-marketing case study, and startup events.
Render also lists partner deals for members, including Sentry credits, Deel credits and discounts on Vanta and Mintlify.
A note on the Build tier amount
Render’s own pages describe this tier slightly differently. The tier card says $2,500 for startups from a partner and $5,000 from select partners. The FAQ says most VCs and accelerators qualify for $5,000. The application page gives a $1,000 to $5,000 range. Assume the amount depends on your partner and confirm with them.
The AI tier is for AI-native products
Render says the $100K tier is for companies whose product is built around AI, such as data-heavy, agent or LLM-driven products. Adding an AI feature to an ordinary SaaS app does not qualify.
Who qualifies
Every tier requires that you are a new Render customer, at Series A or earlier, and have raised less than $50M in total. On top of that:
- Prototype: at least $25K in seed funding and under 4 years in operation.
- Build: applying through an enrolled partner and under 4 years in operation.
- Scale: funding from an enrolled top-tier VC and under 5 years in operation.
- AI: at least $2.5M from an enrolled top-tier VC and under 4 years in operation.
If you have not raised at all, you do not qualify, though Render says you can still build on its free offering. It does review exceptions for founders or senior leaders with a strong record at well-funded technology companies.
How to apply
- Create a Render account. Render asks you to include it in your application.
- For Build, Scale or AI, get the application link from your accelerator or VC’s perks portal. For Prototype, apply directly from the Render for Startups page.
- Complete the short application.
- Once approved, Render applies the credits to your account automatically and sends a confirmation email with kickoff instructions.
If your investor is not registered, they can sign up at render.com/startups/partners, or you can email [email protected].
Things to check before you apply
- Apply through the right channel. Applying directly caps you at $500. If your investor is a Render partner, use their link.
- One grant only. Render gives credits to each startup once. If you expect to qualify for a partner tier soon, it may be worth waiting rather than taking $500 now.
- The one-year clock starts at approval. It runs from the confirmation email, not from first deployment.
- New customers only. An existing paying Render account may not qualify.
- After expiry you pay standard rates. Render says your setup and data stay in place and billing moves to normal pricing.
How it compares
Render’s structure rewards investor networks heavily: the gap between the direct $500 tier and the partner tiers is large. Founders with a partner VC should always go through the perks portal. Bootstrapped teams should note that this programme is not open to them at all, unlike some database and analytics programmes with a self-funded track.
