Algolia’s startup programme gives young companies up to $10,000 in credits for Algolia’s hosted search and discovery API, valid for 12 months. It is aimed at new customers that are under 7 years old and have raised less than $15M. We checked Algolia’s official startup page and programme terms on 1 November 2026.
What you get
The main benefit is up to $10,000 worth of Algolia services, measured at Algolia’s list prices. The credits work only on the Grow and Grow Plus plans. They cannot be applied to a committed paid contract.
Alongside the credits, Algolia lists several programme perks:
- Credits and offers from other software companies, with Datadog and Notion named as examples
- Learning resources through Algolia Academy
- Access to Algolia’s support team
- Early access to new Algolia features
- A founder community
- A chance to be featured in Algolia’s blog posts and video series
Expiry
Credits are valid for 12 months from the date you are accepted into the programme. Anything unused after that expires. Algolia’s terms say it may choose to extend or top up credits, but you should not count on it.
When the credits run out
If you spend the full $10,000 before the 12 months end, or keep using Algolia after expiry, usage is billed at standard prices. The person who owns the application is responsible for those charges. The Monitoring tab in the Algolia dashboard shows how much you are using.
A simple habit helps here: divide $10,000 by 12 to get a monthly budget of roughly $833, then compare it with your actual monthly spend in the Monitoring tab. If you are well above that line by month three or four, plan for paid usage before the credits are gone rather than after.
Who qualifies
Algolia’s programme terms set these conditions:
| Rule | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Company age | Incorporated no more than 7 years before applying |
| Funding | Less than $15M in equity funding raised |
| Customer history | Not a current or previous paid Algolia subscriber |
| Ownership | Not controlled by a non-qualifying company or a direct Algolia competitor |
| Coupons | No other Algolia coupon code used before |
Free Algolia users are welcome to apply. Algolia says it can make exceptions case by case, and it may set other requirements.
There is no accelerator or investor referral requirement for the standard application. Incubators, accelerators, angel investors and VC firms can also partner with Algolia to offer the programme to their portfolio companies.
How to apply
- Check that your company meets the age, funding and customer-history rules.
- Read the startup programme terms.
- Open the Algolia for Startups page and use the Apply for Algolia credits link, which opens a support request form.
- Submit the form with your company details.
- For questions not covered there, email Algolia’s startups team at the address listed on the startup page.
Algolia does not publish a review time.
Things to check before you apply
- Pick the right plan. Credits apply only to Grow or Grow Plus. If you need features from a higher plan or a committed contract, the credits will not cover it.
- Spend is at list price. $10,000 is measured against standard rates, so estimate your search request and record volumes against Algolia’s pricing before you assume it covers a full year.
- Coupons disqualify you. If anyone on your team has redeemed another Algolia promo code, you are out. Check before applying.
- Credits are not transferable. They stay with the account in the application and cannot serve an existing paid subscriber.
- Algolia can end participation. Breaching Algolia’s terms or failing programme requirements means credits stop applying immediately.
- The 12 months start at acceptance. Apply once your search integration is close to launch.
How it compares
Algolia’s offer is one of the more open developer-tool programmes: the $15M funding cap and 7-year age limit cover most seed and Series A companies, and no partner referral is needed. The main limits are the restriction to Grow and Grow Plus plans and the single-code rule, which catches teams that have tried an earlier Algolia promotion.
