PostHog for Startups gives eligible companies $50,000 in PostHog credits for 12 months, plus merch and partner perks. Your company must be under 2 years old, have raised less than $5m, apply from a company email domain, and have a PostHog account created on or after 1 January 2023.

PostHog for Startups is PostHog’s credit programme for young, lightly funded companies. Approved startups get $50,000 in PostHog credits to spend over 12 months, plus founder merch and a set of partner discounts. We checked the official PostHog page on 1 November 2026, and everything below reflects what PostHog publishes there.

What you get

The headline is a flat $50,000 credit, not a range or a tiered amount. You can spread it across most of PostHog’s products, including product analytics, web analytics, session replay, feature flags, experiments, error tracking, surveys, heatmaps, the CDP, AI observability and the context warehouse.

To give a sense of scale, PostHog says the full $50,000 spent on a single product would cover roughly:

If you spent it all on Approximate volume
Product analytics events 950 million events
Session replay More than 6 million recordings
LLM analytics More than 840 million events
Error tracking 396 million events

On top of the credits, PostHog lists three partner perks, which it says are worth more than $12,000 combined:

  • $1,500 off an Incident.io team plan
  • 50% off Speakeasy for 6 months
  • $5,000 in Depot credit for container builds and remote caching

You also get PostHog merch, the startup newsletter and invites to programme events. PostHog emails partner perk details after you are accepted.

What the credits do not cover

From 14 September 2026, PostHog stopped allowing startup credits to pay for its token-priced AI tools: PostHog AI, PostHog Desktop, the PostHog Slack app, Replay Vision and Inbox. If you joined before that date, usage from before the cut-off can still be paid with credits. AI observability is not affected and remains covered.

Credits also cannot be used to claim a BAA under the Boost plan, though they can pay for other parts of that package. Paid onboarding calls and custom service packages are excluded too.

Who qualifies

PostHog publishes four conditions, and you need to meet all of them:

  1. Your company is less than 2 years old.
  2. It has raised less than $5m in funding.
  3. Your PostHog account was created on or after 1 January 2023.
  4. You apply from a PostHog account that uses your company’s own email domain. Personal addresses such as Gmail or Outlook are rejected.

There is no accelerator or investor referral requirement for the standard offer. Y Combinator companies are pointed to a separate deal on Bookface instead, and the two cannot be combined.

How to apply

PostHog says applying takes about two minutes. The process it describes:

  1. Create a PostHog account using your company email address, if you do not have one already.
  2. Move the account onto a paid plan. You are only charged for what you use, and every product keeps its monthly free allowance.
  3. Fill in the startup application form linked from the PostHog for Startups page.
  4. PostHog applies the credit automatically if you meet the criteria, then confirms acceptance by email.

PostHog does not publish a fixed review time. It does reserve the right to decline an application or remove credits if a company turns out not to meet the rules.

Things to check before you apply

  • The 12-month clock. The credits are valid for 12 months. Apply when you expect real usage, not months before launch, or a large part of the value may go unused.
  • One time only. Credits are issued once per founder and once per organisation, whichever comes first. If you already claimed them for a previous startup, you cannot claim again for a new company or a new PostHog organisation.
  • Company domain first. If you are still on a personal email, build on the free tier and apply once your domain is set up.
  • AI tool spend is billed normally. If your team leans on PostHog AI or Replay Vision, budget for that separately, since credits no longer touch it.
  • Old accounts miss out. An account created before 2023 gets the rest of the programme but not the $50,000.
  • Support level stays standard. Being in the programme does not add priority support.

How it compares

Most analytics vendors cap startup offers at a usage limit or a free plan. PostHog’s approach is a dollar credit that works across nearly its whole product range, which suits teams that want analytics, replay, flags and error tracking in one place. The trade-off is the strict eligibility window: two years old and under $5m raised rules out many seed-stage companies that have grown quickly. If you miss the cut, PostHog’s free monthly allowances still apply to every product.

Questions people ask

Can Y Combinator companies get PostHog for Startups credits?

YC companies have their own PostHog deal, listed on Bookface. PostHog says the YC deal and the standard startup credits do not stack, so you pick one or the other.

What happens when the $50,000 runs out or the 12 months end?

You move onto a normal PostHog plan and pay for usage as usual. PostHog says you still count as part of the startup programme for things like office hour invites and other perks.

I created my PostHog account before 2023. Can I still get the credits?

No credits in that case. PostHog only applies the $50,000 to accounts created on or after 1 January 2023, although an otherwise eligible startup can still join the rest of the programme.

Do startup programme members get priority support?

No. PostHog says startup plan organisations get normal priority and community support only, with no dedicated account manager or customer success contact, even if credits go toward a platform package.
