Neon Startup Program: Up to $200K in Neon and Databricks Credits

Neon's startup programme gives self-funded teams up to $1,000 and venture-backed startups up to $200K in credits for 12 months. Rules and steps.

Neon's startup programme has two tracks. Self-funded startups with under $1M raised get up to $1,000 in Neon credits. Startups with $1M or more raised, or from a recognised accelerator such as Y Combinator, get up to $200K in Neon and Databricks credits. Credits last 12 months.

Neon, the serverless Postgres provider, runs its startup programme under the Databricks Startup Program name. Self-funded teams can get up to $1,000 in Neon credits, while venture-backed startups can get up to $200K in credits spread across Neon and Databricks. We checked the official Neon startups page on 1 November 2026, and the figures below come from there.

What you get

There are two tracks, and which one you land in depends on funding.

Self-funded Venture-backed
Credits Up to $1,000 Up to $200K
Platforms covered Neon Neon and Databricks
Onboarding help from Neon’s product team Yes Yes
Early access to new Neon features Yes Yes
Speaking slots at Neon developer events No Yes
Co-marketing with Neon No Yes

Both amounts are ceilings. Neon says the grant you actually receive depends on your stage and funding, so a company that has just crossed $1M should not expect the full $200K.

The venture-backed credits can be used on Databricks as well as Neon, which matters if you plan to run analytics or AI workloads on Databricks alongside your Postgres database. Neon does not publish how the total is divided between the two.

Expiry

All credits are valid for 12 months from the date you are accepted. After that, or once the balance is used up, your account carries on with the plan you chose and normal billing applies. Neon says there are no surprise charges while credits are active and no commitment to stay afterwards.

Who qualifies

Self-funded track:

  • Early-stage company with less than $1M in funding
  • Building an early-stage product or MVP
  • No investors required

Venture-backed track:

  • At least $1M in funding, or participation in a recognised accelerator such as Y Combinator
  • Building an early-stage product or MVP

Neon does not publish a company age limit, a list of qualifying accelerators or a list of partner VC firms. Y Combinator is the only accelerator named. If you are in a smaller accelerator, mention it in your application and let Neon decide.

Existing Neon or Databricks customers are allowed to apply.

How to apply

  1. Open the Neon startups page and choose Apply Now.
  2. Complete the application form with your company and funding details.
  3. Wait for the review. Neon says it usually replies within a few business days.
  4. If you qualify, Neon confirms by email and adds the credits to your account. Existing users keep their current account.

Things to check before you apply

  • Time your application. The 12-month validity starts at acceptance, not at first use. If your product is still months from launch, the free plan may serve you better until then.
  • “Up to” means a range. Both tracks are maximums. Ask what you were granted and plan around that number.
  • Databricks credits are only useful if you use Databricks. If you only need Postgres, the Neon portion is what counts for you.
  • Billing continues after expiry. Watch your usage as the 12 months near their end so the move to paid billing does not come as a shock.
  • Accelerator status is loosely defined. Only Y Combinator is named as an example, so the venture-backed track for accelerator companies is at Neon’s discretion.

Which track fits you

Your situation Likely track What to expect
Bootstrapped, no investors Self-funded Up to $1,000 in Neon credits
Angel or friends-and-family money under $1M Self-funded Up to $1,000 in Neon credits
Seed round of $1M or more Venture-backed A share of up to $200K, set by stage
In Y Combinator or a similar accelerator Venture-backed A share of up to $200K, set by stage

If you sit near the $1M line, apply under the track that matches your funding on the day you submit. Neon reviews the details, so overstating your round will not help and may slow the review.

How it compares

The self-funded track is a modest but useful option for bootstrapped founders, since some database programmes require a VC or accelerator referral before they give anything. The venture-backed track is among the larger database offers, largely because it bundles Databricks credits. If your stack is Postgres-only, compare the Neon share against other managed Postgres and database programmes before deciding.

Questions people ask

Can I get Neon startup credits without investors?

Yes. The self-funded track is open to early-stage teams with less than $1M in funding and no investors at all. It pays up to $1,000 in Neon credits, valid for 12 months.

How is the $200K split between Neon and Databricks?

Neon does not publish a split. It says venture-backed startups can receive up to $200K across both platforms, and that the exact amount depends on your stage and funding.

Do I need a new Neon account to join?

No. Existing Neon and Databricks users can apply, and approved credits are added to the account you already have, so there is no migration.

What happens when Neon credits run out?

Your account stays on whichever plan you picked and further usage is billed at normal rates. Neon says there is no commitment to stay once the credits are gone.
